Curriculum Vitae

Mikea Hugley is a consummate design practitioner & educator at DINFOS (Defense Information School) where she teaches active duty military industry standard design practices. She also adjuncts at (MICA) Maryland Institute College of Art and CCBC (Community College of Baltimore County) where she lectures about the design process, graphic design and branding. She has structured her classes to be ran as a design studio in which students work on real world projects in collaboration with internal or community partners. In addition to her educational contribution, she has designed for many institutions and corporations, including Google, Johns Hopkins, The Hatchett Group, Enoch Pratt and many small businesses across the country. In 2022, Hugley completed the Goldman Sachs 10KSB Program for her design practice and has been a part of many speaking engagements, including IBM’s State of Black Design, 2020. She also presented her earlier work at the Washington Post, for her AIGA World Studio award while studying at MICA in 2017. Beyond education and her design practice, Hugley has supported some of Baltimore’s most decorated Authors and creatives, including D.Watkins where she designed the cover for Black Boy Smile and many design works for Kondwani Fidel, including Hummingbird in The Trenches and Raw Wounds, in addition to being the first designer to be selected for The Baltimore Banners Creative’s in Residence Program, where she has contributed regularly. Hugley continues to hybrid between the design and business scene, by developing identities for clients and creating her own company. In 2020, Hugley started Makers For Humankind, a human centered product design company that develops products for everyday activities, helping people to do more and become better versions of themselves. This company fits within the lifestyle category. The companies MVP is their interchangeable clog, whereby Hugley won first place at MICA’s Upstart pitch competition. Hugley plans to release the brand in the near future, if it’s the Lord’s will.
